Pedro de Abreu is a Brazilian entrepreneur and motivational speaker. He is the founder of the Check Mate Foundation, based in of Columbia, South Carolina.[1]
Pedro moved to America from Brazil in 2005 without knowing English. After graduating from high school he moved to North Hollywood, California, and co-founded Moofaces.[2] In South Carolina he started the non-profit Check Mate Foundation[3] teaching chess to underprivileged children. Pedro is a motivational speaker represented by the Teen Speakers International Bureau,[4] which also represents SuperJam founder Fraser Doherty.[5] He has been named South Carolina's 2011 New Century Scholar[6] by the Phi Theta Kappa and the Coca-Cola Foundation.[7][8] De Abreu is also a leadership scholar at the University of South Carolina.[9][10]
